Beads and sequins can be dry cleaned if they are made properly.
Many manufacturers do not always test the
beads or sequins that they attach to clothing to see if they stand up to
dry cleaning. Some beads may completely dissolve while others may
transfer dye to the fabric.
Sequins and beads may lose all or part of their color or shine, curl up and on rare occasions they may melt.
Many garments with beads and sequins are wet cleanable, however, all garments with beads, sequins or similar
trimming should be cleaned according to serviceability.
Leather and Suede
Most leather and suede garments will clean beautifully when processed by a professional suede and leather
cleaner. However, there are some exceptions, due to the quality and condition of the skins.

Dry Cleaning FYI
Hydrocarbon - processes use hydrocarbon solvents such as Exxon-Mobil’s DF-2000 or EcoSolv. These petroleum-
based solvents are less aggressive than perc and require a longer cleaning cycle. While flammable, these solvents
do not present a high risk of fire or explosion when used properly. Hydrocarbon also contains some volatile organic
compounds (VOCs) that contribute to smog.
Wet cleaning is a non-toxic, environmentally safe alternative to dry cleaning, utilizing computer-controlled
washing machines, biodegradable soaps and conditioners, and various types of pressing equipment that may be
specialized for many different fabric and fiber types.
Types of Clothes to Wetclean
• Appropriate types of clothes to wet clean include cottons, wool sweaters, fine silks and rayons.
Some wedding gowns, and beaded and sequined garments.
• Some acetate linings and highly structured (tailored) garments can be difficult to wet clean.
• Antique satins and gabardines should not be wet cleaned
Perchloroethylene(Perc) is classified as a probable human carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on
Cancer, and exposure carries risks to both those who work in the dry cleaning industry as well as consumers. Perc
exposure has been shown to cause liver cancer in mice and kidney cancer in male rats according to California's
South Coast Air Quality Management District(SCAQMD). Perc is also classified as a hazardous air contaminant by
the EPA and must be handled as a hazardous waste.
